The Gouveia Apartment, located on the Boa Viagem waterfront in Recife, was conceived around the idea of understated sophistication, where the architecture serves as a backdrop to highlight the furniture, art, and landscape. The ocean view plays an integral role in the spatial experience, guiding the arrangement of pieces and reinforcing a sense of spaciousness and contemplation.

A neutral palette and light-toned surfaces create a quiet backdrop for the family’s personal collection, which includes inherited pieces rich in memory. In contrast, the freestanding furniture takes center stage through signature pieces—selected not only for their form but for their presence and the dialogue they create with one another.

A standout among them is the Jangada Armchair, designed by Jean Gillon in 1968—an icon of Brazilian modern design. Its exposed wooden structure, combined with a tensioned mesh sling and leather upholstery, translates Brazilian nautical culture into a piece with a strong identity, reinforcing the presence of national design within the project.

The result is a sophisticated, timeless apartment where minimalism signifies precision rather than absence. A few carefully selected elements create an atmosphere in which art, design, memory, and landscape share the spotlight.

Concept: a quiet architecture designed to reveal what truly matters—the view, the art, the furniture, and the family’s stories.
